Coat Closet Project

Awhile ago J- and I decided to embark on a closet project.

We wanted to change our home's
1964 entry closet to something more eye catching

Something like this....

Truth be told I really wanted to get rid of the closet all together.
Then my dear husband J- reminded me that the only place the kids
would have to put their stuff away was - the floor.

Hmmm....that doesn't work.
(even though that is where they usually put their stuff anyway)

This is what we started with.

Double flat hollow doors painted green with brass knobs
(contain your jealousy please)

Gradually we got to the framing phase.
It looked like this...

We built up the bottom and framed over the existing hollow doors.

Step two - primer.

Step three -  painted it a deep butterscotch color.

This was the first color applied.

It was the first in a 5 step process.

Hydrangea blossom blue was the second color to be applied.

Then a crackle mixture to enhance it's character.

Finally, we applied some black spray paint along the corners to make it pop.

And VIOLA

This is our closet today.

Now it looks like a furniture piece instead of a closet.
Who would ever guess that inside those paneled doors lies a whole lot of mess ;-)

This marks project one in the
Life is Beautiful Project.

Next up...

Amping up our curb appeal with exterior shingle siding, removing a funky 1960s
(nothing cool mid-century modern about it trust me)
planter and post and adding french doors to what will become a master bedroom patio.

Monday Manifest

Manifest-to bring from a dream and make real in visible form

Beautifully designed and built spaces can be considered a manifestation
-an inner beauty, a spirit, a dream brought to life in the physical world

Summer in New England has always felt to me to be like a dream-

The beauty of the rosa rugosa and hydrangea blooms, the vast calm of the Atlantic, scrabble games sprawled out on the floor of the old sleeping porch, the smell of a beach bonfire and sounds of screen doors slamming and bare feet running across wood floors.

A dream that brought to reality would fill me with tremendous joy and inspire the further pursuit of my Life is Beautiful project.

I am going to manifest spending the summer along the coast of New England.

Pinterest

I can already feel the cool breezes from the ocean and rough touch of the seashells on my toes.  I can see the sails of a schooner on the horizon.  My breath deepens, my thoughts disappear, my imagination soars.  All of my senses are engaged in the simple act of joy.

I'll let you know when I am on my way.

The Life is Beautiful Project

The Life is Beautiful Project is based on the premise that people are influenced by their surroundings.  It is my belief that beautifully designed and organized spaces inspire, empower and passionately fulfill those who dwell in them.

The project is meant to accomplish two things. One is to fulfill a personal dream of becoming a practicing and successful interior designer.  The second is to make beautiful, personal spaces accessible to all people.
